In loving memory of John. uring his long career, John Boer (1934-2017) was a true entrepreneur, always looking to the future and always ready to produce new products. After he had turned 50 years old, John had even taken a course in mechanical engineering just to be able to better understand the technology. This tremendous passion he had for technology was passed on to his sons the way he saw it. John Boer’s wife Louise was also very creative and an artist, and she was able to pass this talent onto her children. Achieving that goal officially happened on 13 October 1960, after a career as a sales representative at Mataram BV in Amsterdam, John decided to start his own company. As a result of the many trips to Africa and being away from home for months as well as the success at Mataram, it became easier to choose his own path. 1960TRANSLAS 65YEARS 6 John started the company Incon which was active in tank construction. After a few years he decided to build his own tanks and produced these storage tanks in Montfoort with great success. However, due to the dependence on the weather, as the tanks were always built outside, during the sixties John slowly decided to choose a different path and by chance met the at that time one of the largest welding electrode manufacturers in the world, Kobe Steel. TRANSLAS 65 YEARS7 After several conversations with Kobe John got the exclusive sales rights for the Netherlands and so the first step was taken with ion welding technology. Because of the capriciousness in tank construction and risks with the production delay due to the changing weather conditions John started to reduce these activities and increase the electrode sales. At the end of the 1960s, this resulted in the name Incon being renamed Translas Midden Nederland BV, which was housed in De Meern, in the province of Utrecht. 1970TRANSLAS 65YEARS 8 1970 - 1980TRANSLAS 65 YEARS9 1970 The change of name from Incon BV to Translas Midden Nederland is a fact. After solid sales in welding electrodes, sales of welding wire are slowly coming up. Here, John sees a good addition to the product range. At the time, the welding wires were mainly produced in Italy and an agency in the Netherlands of a good supplier there was quickly established. Translas Midden Nederland was one of the largest suppliers of welding wires and welding consumables.Next >
